How to Find a Job that is Impactful and Fulfilling?
Last week we were invited by AIESEC in Norway to give a speech on important soft skills for young people about to enter the work force.
I decided to share 10 tips based on common hurdles and solutions I had seen most often from hundreds of people going through our mentor programmes at Sammen om en jobb.
To summarize the summary, I would recommend:
🤔 1. Giving the decision proper thought:
Over the couse of our careers, we will spend around 80 000 hours at work (maybe less with AI). Spending a bit of time figuring out what career would promotes both happiness and a positive impact on the world is therefore a really good investment. Talking with friends and family or finding a mentor is important. Furthermore, 80,000 Hours or Meningsfylt are organisations specialising in helping people find high impact jobs, and are worth a look.
⛅️ 2. Taking care of yourself:
Things are moving faster than ever and it is increasingly difficult to predict what skills wil be needed in the workplace of the future. Therefore, taking care of the most important resource of them all; ourselves, is the best investment we can do to prepare for the labour market of tomorrow. Handprints is an initiative which explores this, especially within the context of social impact and sustainability.
🧭 3. Let go of perfect:
Leaving our comfort zone, embracing imperfection and letting go of control are all really important in order not just to succeed in the job seeking process, but also to stay sane throughout the process.
